Ahoy Captain Cats here and some good news if you are in the Beverly Hills area on December 2.

According to Newsarama, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences are hosting a screening of Katsuhiro Otomo 1988 anime film classic Akira, which is based on the manga of the same name which Otomo created himself.

The screening will be on December 2 of this year at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, CA. The screening is part of the annual Marc Davis Celebration of Animation. After the screening, there will be a panel to talk about Akira and here is the list of people who will be talking on this panel:

Jorge Gutierrez – Director of Book of Life
Justin Thompson – Production Designer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Genndy Tartakovsky – Director of Hotel Transylvania and Primal
Randy Haycock – Animator on Moana
Peter Chung – Writer/Artist of Aeon Flux

If you are around the Beverly Hills area on said date, it is open to the general public for the price of entry is $5, if your a member of the Academy it will be $3. If you never had the chance to see Akira at all or in the theater, this is a must-see for anyone who is a fan of Japanese animation, beautiful artwork and see how the art of hand-drawn animation was pain-staking detailed that went on influence the Japanese Cyberpunk movement and scene that is still alive today.
