Ahoy Captain Cats here and today I’m going to talk about Gamescom 2019.

This year GC (Gamescon for short) had a lot of good vibe and energy coming into this year. With GDC and E3 did somehow showcase new tech and new games, most notably Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Final Fantasy 7 REMAKE, and the Google Stadia. They also didn’t generate a lot of hype and buzz with it came to people talking about what was going on, and even the ESA data leak as well. GC has been climbing up to be one of the top 5 gaming conventions. The others are E3, PAX East and West, GDC and Tokyo Game Show. So did GC took the next step where GDC and E3 didn’t, yeas and no.

Day one GC had all the press conference, and they were good. Here is a small list of games that were shown at GC:

  • Dragon Ball Z Kakarot
  • Need for Speed Heat
  • The Witcher 3 on the Nintendo Switch
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
  • Gears of War 5
  • Windjammers 2
  • Streets of Rage 4
  • Death Stranding

While that was great and all the rest of the show was kind of quiet, due to with all of the announcements were all giving out on day one. There was some pocket news here and there like how Sony buying Insomniac Games, the same studio that created the beautiful Spider-Man game that came out last year and the announcement of when the rest of the world will see the next Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay video. In short, GC put all of their eggs into one basket, and that bite them in the butt.

So in the end of the convention, GC was a hit and miss, more hits than miss. They are looking to put themselves in the mix for THE gaming convention to go to next year and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were true.
