Yo Ho, WeRCatz here!

It’s time to see if De La Soul’s debut album 3 Feet High And Rising stands the test of time after being sequestered by Tommy Boy Records.

What can I say? This album is still fresh after 34 years after its release. Many of the innovations De La Soul made held up nicely. I was taken back to the 90s and a time when music was heading away from the repugnant banality of mainstream music.

Without 3 Feet High And Rising, we would never have the existence of alternative hip-hop. The Wu-Tang Clan would not have the tools, beats, and samples it would have to play with. Nas would not be a hip-hop legend. Hell, hip-hop would have died within 10 years if it weren’t for De La Soul’s techniques. Some consider 3 Feet High And Rising to be the hip-hop equivalent to 1967s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Many are awaiting the release via physical and digital media of De La Soul’s catalog. I have already purchased the vinyl version of this monumental album but a shipping error is making me wait for another 3 weeks. However I have pre-ordered their second album De La Soul Is Dead, so stay tuned next month!
