Marvel’s Secret Wars was one of the biggest events that Marvel had at the time, and they needed to follow up on it. Instead of seeing how the current Marvel Universe was dealing with the aftermath of Secret Wars at that time, they instead doubled down on a sequel that no one asked for, and that was Secret Wars II, which turns 40.
Secret Wars was published from May 1984 till April 1985, with a total of 12 issues. Secret Wars II was published from July 1985 till March 1986 with a total of 9 issues and ruined everything that made the first Secret Wars a classic. This time around we focus on the Beyonder, and he wants to understand what it’s like to be human, in other words, a god-like being wants to experience what life is like for simple humans.
I don’t know what you, but this was lazy writing from start to finish, and by the time you finish this series you either hate it or just don’t care because it was stupid. Jim Shooter who wrote the first Secret Wars, also wrote this as well and Al Milgrom who did the artwork on this and was the co-create of part two, somehow just dropped the ball on this and made the first one into a joke and that just sad.
Don’t read Secret Wars II, you’re not missing much, and fun fact about Secret Wars II is that this was the first time Marvel introduced Tie-in issues outside of the main storyline to understand the whole story as a whole.
