Today in Underground we are going to talk about Halloween music but from a different point of view. We are not going to talk about Michael Jackson’s Thriller, The Monster Bash or any other favorite songs that are always at every Halloween parties. We are going to talk about a horror movie soundtrack that can be played at any Halloween party, get yourself in the Halloween mood, or have a love for the 80’s punk movement and that soundtrack is The Return of the Living Dead.

The Return of the Living Dead movie released on August 16, 1985, to critical success and a lot of movie critics gave the film a very positive review. One of the main reasons the movie was so successful was that fact they gave it an 80’s punk vibe to it. The setting, story plot, characters, zombies and the music is 100% nothing like Night of the Living Dead. Return of the Living Dead embraces its influence from the punk movement in the 80’s that the soundtrack had to do the same. In the same year, The Return of the Living Dead Soundtrack came out and had bands from punk rock, horror rock and psychobilly such as:

The bands in this soundtrack made sure the music fits with the movie of the same name, and it does, not only that it also stood the test of time as one of the best rock soundtracks of it’s kind. Sadly like the movie itself it fell into the hands of the hardcore fans of horror and this kind of music and had a cult following. Both the film and the soundtrack are worth watching and listening; you can even play the whole soundtrack at your next Halloween party and let everyone do the Surfin’ Dead!
