Underground: Wham’s Last Christmas

Today on underground we are going to talk about Wham’s last song together, which was also group the best song and it’s the holiday classic Last Christmas.

The song itself is both heartwarming and sad at the same time. The beat, sound, and tempo of the music in the song is what made Wham such a massive hit in the ’80s. The lyrics, on the other hand, are heartbreaking and depressing, but with an uplifting conclusion at the end of the song. Here is a great example of George Michael lyrical genius:

A lot of people wouldn’t know that there is two version of this song. The first version of the song which you can listen here is simple, sad, to the point and was made as a single. This version of the song is the one that is played on the radio. Studio Engineer Chris Porter, who recorded the song once said this about the song:

“you’ve got the happiness of the rhythm track, but against that you’ve got the sadness of the unrequited love”.- Chris Porter

The second version of this song which was released a year after the original release was longer and had more music and lyrics to it and was titled “Pudding Mix.”

The Pudding Mix was a more popular version of the two, and if you look at the groups greatest hit or other compilation albums, this is the version of Last Christmas that is used due to it being a massive hit.
