Looks like Hayao Miyazaki is going for gold again with his latest animated film. It was announced that The Boy and the Heron was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Film during the 96th Academy Awards Nomination event early Tuesday morning. The other animated films that were also nominated are Elemental, Nimona, Robot Dreams, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

I’m very surprised that The Super Mario Bros Movie and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem were not nominated and yet Elemental was. Besides that the only real dark horses in this race are Robot Dreams and Nimona, both films are wonderful in their own right and could play a role in who will win this year’s Oscar. Miyazaki has won an Oscar for Spirited Away back in 2003. Congrats on the nomination.
