Well as the Spring anime season is coming to an end and the Summer anime season is on its way in, one Spring anime series this year was one that I like so much, I’m calling it my anime series of the season and that anime is Otaku Elf.

The series is based on the manga series of the same name that is created by Akihiko Higuchi. The manga and TV series follows Koito Koganei, a 16-year-old girl who is a Miko (shrine maiden) at Takamimi Shrine, her family has been part for over 15 generations. One of her main tasks is to do her task and such with the local “deity” name Elda, a female elf who was summoned by Tokugawa Ieyasu over 400 years ago, and with time she became an otaku. Despite all of this the local neighborhood and community around the shrine love her, while she wants to give her thanks to them she is extremely shy and worries that people will make fun of her after a small boy made fun of her in the past because of her long ears.

This fantasy comedy series does a great job with the pacing, storyline, and development with the cast of wonderful simple characters, and especially the location the series takes place. While the series doesn’t go all out with most anime series did this season and had little to no payoff ala The Witch from Mercury or controversy to go along with it ala Oshi no Ko, Otaku Elf took a simple route and it work for it. Each episode in this 12-episode run is simple yet beautiful at the same time. I highly recommend you go out of your way and see this series when you have the chance. If you love the series, I recommend you to go read the manga series as of now it is still in its current run and has a total of seven volumes to date.
