Netflix has released Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles and to be quite honest it does have its ups and downs, but overall it has the heart and soul of what the series is loosely based on.

The series setting takes place in a very very far future that looks like if you made a chanbara film and placed it in a cyberpunk environment and this is what you get. The series’ main protagonist is a rabbit teenager name Yuichi, who is a descendant of Miyamoto Usagi, the main character of the Usagi Yojimbo comic series. From here he meets with other companions in the like of Gen, Kitsune, and Chizu to defend Neo Edo from Kagehito and his yokai.

While the animation and flow of the story is a hit and miss from time to time, it has this charm of storytelling and flow that reminds me of the comic series. The voice acting is good and done well and the music is alright. Overall the 10 episodes of this series will go by quickly and while the little ones will get a kick out of it and want more, older fans of the source material may want to watch it. Hopefully, a second season does get the green light with all whats going on with Netflix at the moment.

Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is on Netflix now.
