Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to look back at one of the best side scroller/platformer series of all time and that series is Metroid.

The series was created by Nintendo and was released to the world on August 6, 1986, and changed gaming for the better in many ways. The first game was a masterpiece in every way, from the level design, the huge open map that made the player feel isolated and alone. Even Samus Aran, the female protagonist in this series and also being the earliest female video game protagonist in video game history.

The series was inspired by the 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien so much that the main antagonist Ridley was named after Ridley Scott, the director of Alien, and also by Swiss artist H.R. Giger, who also worked on the film, Alien.

From here the series would go on and release more great games such as the Metroid Prime series, Zero Mission (a retelling of the classic game), the latest Metroid game which is said to conclude the main Metroid story arc, Metroid Dread, and what some may say is the best game that was ever made, Super Metroid.

Happy Birthday Samus Aran and the rest of the cast and crew of this classic franchise and series.
