Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to review one of the most anticipated anime series for the Spring season and that anime is The Way of the Househusband.

The series is based on the manga series of the same name that was created by Kousuke Oono and was first published back in 2018 and is still ongoing as of now and has released seven volumes with the latest being released in March of this year. The series is about “The Immortal Dragon” Tatsu, a former legendary yakuza boss who walked away from that life to become a househusband and is married to Miku, a career- focus designer who is secretly an otaku. During this new chapter in his life, he runs into old friends and rivals from his previous life who may or may not like his new life. Last year it won a Will Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication.

After watching the 5, yes you read it 5 episodes I have to say it’s a hit-and-miss series. The look, feel, vibe, voice acting, and tone are spot on just like the manga and it shows thanks to J.C. Staff. Here is where the miss comes in and that is the animation. It is like watching a motion comic from the late 90s early 2000s and that is a make-or-break deal for a good amount of people, especially for people who expected grade A animation. Another thing is that with these 5 episodes they just covered the first three volumes in terms of picking a few stories from each book and throwing them together, it’s not bad but they did leave out a lot of good stories.

The Way of the Househusband series is not bad at all, its a good watch overall but I think could have been a bit better, and just to let you know Netflix has announced a second part to this series and I hope they do it justice. The Way of the Househusband is on Netflix right now.
