Ahoy Captain Cats here and today the Cannes Film Festival has released its official selection and it has 4 animated films this year.

According to the official press release from the Festival de Cannes, out of the 56 films that were selected for this year festival, 4 of them are animated films and here are the four:

AYA TO MAJO(Earwig and the Witch) by Goro Miyazaki (Japan) – 1H22
FLEE by Jonas Poher Rasmussen (Denmark) – 1H30
JOSEP by Aurel (France) – 1H20 1st Film
SOUL by Pete Docter (USA) – 1H30

We already know what Soul is about with trailers but the other three animated films are head scratches, but no fear the captain sailed the internet seas and found information about the other three.

Earwig and the Witch is directed by Goro Miyazaki, who is the son of Hayao Miyazaki, one of the co-founders of Studio Ghibli. This will be Goro’s third film that he will direct for Ghibli and the film is based on the book of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones, Studio Ghibli was inspired by her other novel Howl’s Moving Castle and created the film of the same name back in 2004. This film will also be 100% fully CG animated and a first for Studio Ghibli.

Flee is based on a true story of an Afghan man who migrated to Denmark as a teen and found happiness, but harbors a secret that can ruin his life. Director Jonas Poher Rasmussen has a few films under his belt with 2012 Searching for Bill and 2015 What He Did, which won the 18th Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival.

Josep is Aurel’s first feature film and directorial debut. The animated film is about Josep Bartoli, a political cartoonist who got involved in the Spanish Civil War.

The Festival de Cannes will be having a Marche du Film Online from June 22 till the 26 and once more information about when to see these animated films we will let you know and congratulations to the selected films.
