Ahoy Captain Cats here and today some interesting news that came out of New York Comic-Con or NYCC for short this past weekend.

It was announced that Disney will be teaming up with Viz Media to create manga series out of Disney properties. Quick history lesson before this team-up, Disney team up with TokyoPop to create manga for the house of mouse. As of now, they are still creating manga for them with the likes of Big Hero 6, Disney Fairies, Finding Nemo, Kingdom Hearts and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Viz announced via Twitter that the first book will be Star Wars: The Legends of Luke Skywalker and has an early 2020 release date. The second book will be Frozen 2: the manga, this also has an early 2020 release as well.

Disney is looking to branch out into other markets and this could be a hit and miss due to how the Disney formula of storytelling doesn’t fit into the manga structure unless they allow the creative team to go and do what they need to do to let it work. Only time will tell if this will work or not.
