Ahoy me mateys Captain Cats here, and today we are talking about what’s been going on for the past few days with more information about the live-action Gundam movie.

We know that it will be Legendary Pictures that will be doing the film and they released a full statement about the project as such:

“The original Gundam series is set in the Universal Century, an era in which humanity’s growing population has led people to emigrate to space colonies. Eventually, the people living in the colonies seek their autonomy, and launch a war of independence against the people living on Earth. Through the tragedies and discord arising from this human conflict, not only the maturation of the main character, but also the intentions of enemies and the surrounding people are sensitively depicted. The battles in the story, in which the characters pilot robots known as mobile suits, are wildly popular.” – LEGENDARY

We also know that they found a writer for the film and its none other than Y: The Last Man creator Brian K. Vaughan. It is said that Vaughan has a three year deal with Legendary, so I think this is a smart move on both parties. I think if they are going to do this they have to make this a non-cannon to the Universal Century (UC for short) main story line. A great example of this would be Gundam Thunderbolts, in which it takes place concurrently within in the “One Year War” and they are fighting in there own little war in the”Thunderbolt Sector.”

we have to wait and see how this will go, and with Hollywood’s current track record with live action anime adaptations, this film already has a long uphill battle right from the start.
