Ahoy me mateys Captain Cats here! Japanese anime and manga has a huge list of horror series and authors that just do horror. Today we are going to give you some recommendation for you to look into for a good Halloween read or watch.
- Any of Junji Ito works– This horror manga artist is one of the best at his craft. Creating such horror manga such as Tomie, Uzumaki, GYO, and oddly enough Cat Diary: Yon &Mu. If you are wondering why a cat diary is in here, he somehow turns his real-life struggles of being a cat owner into a horror story.
- Go Nagai’s Devilman– With the success of Devilman Crybaby, people who have never heard of the name Go Nagai now know who he is. This is a story of a young boy who turns into a demon to save the world by any means and with a cost.
- Perfect Blue– This underrated 1997 psychological horror follows Mima Kirigoe, a singer who retired from a J-Pop group to become an actress, but the road becomes very dark very quick. What made this film worth watching is it blurs the line of what is real and what is fantasy, and we wouldn’t know the difference until its too late.
- Vampire Hunter D– This classic 1985 film is still worth watching today. The animation, story telling, the vibe, and setting make this stand out to what other vampire anime and manga series are out there. The film is about a vampire hunter named D, and he is hired to save a girl from Count Lee, an elder vampire noble. it also had a sequel in 2000 entitled Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
- Berserk– Doesn’t matter if you watch any of the series or films, this is a must watch.
I hope you take your time, sit down, pop some pop corn and watch one of these recommendation and enjoy your night and of course Happy Halloween.
