Ahoy Me Mateys Captain Cats here! We have reached the halfway point of 2018, and so far the winter and spring editions for anime has been outstanding! This list was really hard for me due to that a lot of great new series came out and blew me away. For this list it will be based on NEW anime series that came out for 2018, any other series that started in last year and continue till now is out.

First here are some new series that didn’t make my top 10

  • Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
  • Gakuen Babysitters
  • Takunomi
  • Devilman: Crybaby
  • Hataraku onii-san!
  • Captain Tsubasa
  • Darling in the FranXX
  • FLCL Progressive

Now here is my top 10 best anime of 2018 so far.

10. Koi was Ameagri no You Ni and Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii

Yes, we are starting things off with a tie! Koi was Ameagri no You Ni or After the Rain in English is romance slice of life type of anime from the 2018 winter season. The story is about two people, a high school girl who was a former track runner working at a cafe and begins to develop feelings for her manager, a 45-year-old divorcee who has no idea at all. Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii or Wotakoi, love is hard for Otaku in English is a romantic comedy. The series follows four people who work in the same company, and they are all otakus. The reason why this is a tie is that both series storytelling, artwork music and the main characters themselves are a joy to watch!

9. Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden was one of the surprising hit in winter of 2018. This slice of life drama is about how Violet, an ex-soldier who was raised from a very young age to be a killing machine must now learn how to live her life in a post-war world and understand the final words her commander said to her in the war. This series has its moments of where you feel sorry for her and what she been through in her life. Great story, wonderful voice acting and beautiful artwork make this show a must see.

8.Uma Musume: Pretty Derby

A great anime from the spring 2018 season with a odd twist. Uma Musume: Pretty Derby is a slice of life racing series about “horse girls” who go to a particular school to be the best in both racing and being an idol. The series follows a girl called Special Week, a horse girl from the countryside of Japan who goes to Tracen Academy to fulfill her dream to be the best horse girl in Japan. What makes this series great is because you see not just Special Week going through her ups and downs but also her team as well. By the time the series ended I was invested with her and her team. Great underdog or in this case under horse story.

7.Cardcaptor Sakura: Card-hen

Welcome back Sakura Kinomoto! The last time we saw her was back in 2000 after the second film which was the conclusion to the TV series and me it didn’t felt like it was. After 18 years she back and it was like going back into time, the original voice acting cast came back to reprise the characters, the original studio and directors came back as well to work on this and clamp like always being themselves. If you were a fan of the original or want to see a great magical girl anime series, give this 2018 winter series a go!

6.Aggressive Retsuko

This series is a real treat! Sanrio, the company that created Hello Kitty, has introduced the world to an office worker who’s a red panda who hates her job, her co-workers, and everything else and vents it out in death metal karaoke style! The series which is available on Netflix and has been a huge success! Retsuko is like the unofficial mascot for everyone in the workforce all over the world.

5.Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens

This 2018 Winter anime was nonstop action and was a blast to watch! Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens takes place in the city of Fukuoka, where anyone who’s either a killer or an professional revenge seekers can make a living doing what they do best. If the detectives can’t do their jobs right they hire the hit-mans hit-man, a hit-man who kills other hit-men if they cross the line. The cast of characters, the city, the music, and action is worth watching alone.

4.Golden Kamuy

A breath of fresh air, this spring 2018 anime action-adventure series takes place in Hokkaido after the Russo-Japanese war of the Meiji era. Saichi Sugimoto, a Russo-Japanese war vet, teams up with a young girl named Aspirpa to find a stolen gold reserve and the murder of Aspirpa father. Golden Kamuy is excellent and puts you in the middle of everything and it doesn’t disappoint. Music, setting, environment looks terrific here.

3.Lupin the Third Part 5

Lupin The Third is back and classy as ever. The spring 2018 series takes place in France in modern times. Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, Fujiko, and Zenigata are all back and with a new character, a teenage hacker named Ami Enan. Broken up into three arcs each one tells a different story and different settings makes this one his best yet. The music and animation are at an all-time high, the opening and ending songs are a must to listen too.

2.Megalo Box

The darling of the spring 2018 season, this is one of two anime series that I can say is THE series of 2018 so far. Great storytelling, a fantastic cast of characters, outstanding music and beautiful boxing matching is hands down a contender for 2018 anime series of the year.

1.Poputepipikku

Megalo Box was the darling of spring 2018 season; this show was the darling of winter 2018 season. This is just the opening to what many, including myself, calling it a “new type of anime.” This series even spent money on a fake campaign of a different anime so that people can tune in to this show and it work! Not only that, the show change voice actors every episode and had two sets of voice actors, one male duo, and one female duo, just to do the voices of the two main characters!

There you go, the best so far in 2018, who knows by the end of the year it may change again. Tell me what you think, did I left out any anime series on my list, let me know!
