It’s been some time since we talk about Machina Corpse, but the wait is over as I obtain a copy of The God Machine Volume 1 reVISION via their Kickstarter campaign and ask the question of was the wait worth it and the answer is yes it was.
The God Machine is about Guy Salvatore, who lost his girlfriend and doesn’t know how to live without her, but it seems to be more to it than Guy wants to know or not. While Guy is dealing with all of this, we see three gods, Limbo God, Evil God, and Good God trying to see what’s going on with Guy and his situation, while doing their duties as well as Gods would do. The mixture of urban fantasy, horror, and romance works well here with The God Machine. The pacing and slow burn with the artwork go so well that by the time you reach the end of this, you want to when the next book will come out. Also, the forewords from Chandra Free, Jill Thompson, and Doc Hammer give you a feeling of excitement, curiosity, and expecting the unknown in a good way.
Chandra Free has outdone herself with reVISION. The God Machine was first released back in 2010 by Archaia and I have a copy of that version. Compared to this version, it has shown that she has grown a lot. The story is more updated in the right parts and so is the artwork as well and let’s be honest, reVISION is truly her best work to date. After reading this, it felt like I was meeting up with an old friend who I haven’t seen in years, sitting down, having a cup of coffee with them, and being reminded why I became friends with them in the first place. Sadly, as of now, only those who backed up the Kickstarter campaign will be the first to obtain a copy of the book. Hopefully, Machina Corpse will have some books left over to sell and I would highly recommend you get a copy if you want something completely different from what is out there now.
Now if you excuse me I have a date with Good God and we are going to have a good cup of coffee and listen to Depeche Mode’s latest single.
