Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to look at the latest anime series on Netflix and that series is Kotaro Lives Alone.
The series is about a 4-year-old boy named Kotaro who moved into a small apartment complex and his next-door neighbor is an up-and-coming manga artist who is unpopular. Throughout the series, we are introduced to the other residents of the complex such as a bar hostess, a yakuza member, and a salary worker. While this all adds up to be a crazy comedy, it ends up being a drama and using comedy as a transitional tool.
For example, Mizuki Akitomo, the bar hostess, has a wonderful personality, it’s her personal life that is the drama. She tries to get out of an abusive relationship and when she does she has no choice but to move, making Kotaro sad to the point he hides his face so she can’t see him cry. It is here where the series shines, the drama and storytelling is this series bread and butter. While the comedy is ok at best here, the drama and the stories behind the drama are what make this series worth the watch.
Kotaro Lives Alone is on Netflix right now and is worth the watch but make sure you have a box of tissues with you also I wouldn’t recommend this series for anyone that had a rough childhood due to some of the topics being very deep and might hit home to some viewers.
