Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to review one of the oddest comics/manga collaborations ever that you didn’t know you need and that book is Deadpool: Samurai.
The limited-run series was created by Sanshiro Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi. The series was based on a one-off short from the Marvel X Shonen Jump + Super Collaboration of the same name but with a different take. The one-off was about Deadpool using a time machine to go back in time to feudal Japan and we see him doing what he does best, being the best merc with a mouth.
The one-off became so popular that they created a series that ran from December 2020 till June 2021 and just last week vol 1 was released thanks to Viz Media. This time we see Deadpool being recruited to the Avengers Japan team, Samurai Squad. We see Deadpool meet his teammates, Sakura Spider and Japanese Idol Neirochan who is the host of Venom. From here the series is part comic and manga with the art style, look, and somewhat a story, it’s Deadpool that brings this to a whole new level.
I can see why he was a hit in Japan because Sanshiro Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi get how Deadpool works and bringing this into manga is something I didn’t know I needed in my life. Do yourself a huge favor and go read this because it is funny, bloody, over the top and pure enjoyment to read. This manga could be the perfect way to get someone into manga, especially if they are comic book fans. Deadpool: Samurai Vol 1 is available now.
