Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we talk about The Eisner Awards or too many the Oscars of the comic book industry.
Just last week on the San Diego Comic-Con International web page, the 2020 Eisner Awards nominees were just announced and it looks fantastic with a few categories that are on the same levels as of the FIFA World Cup’s “Group of Death.” If you don’t know what the “Group of Death” term means, to put it simply take the number 1 teams from North America, South America, Europe, and Africa in FIFA World Ranking (Mexico, Brazil, Belgium, and Senegal) put them in a group and only two teams can only pass to the next round and that is the “Group of Death.”
Leading the pack of nods are IDW with13, Fantagraphics with 12, Image with 11, and Dark Horse with 10. Rounding up the rest of the pack are First Second and Drawn&Quarterly with 9, DC and Europe Comics with 7, Shortbox with 5, Scholastic, Marvel, and Boom! with 4, Beehive Books, Nobrow, Viz Media, SelfMadeHero and Titan with 3, 12 companies with 2 and 35 companies/individuals have 1.
When it comes to the categories, they are all great but as I said before there are a few that are in the area of “Group of Death” and here are the categories:
Best Single Issue/One-Shot
Best Continuing Series
Best New Series
Best Publication for Teens
Best Reality-Based Work
Best U.S. Edition of International Material- Asia
Best Writer
Best Writer/Artist
Best Painter/Digital Artist
