Last year one of the important comic event happen with Marvel’s Secret Wars that turned 40. This year THE most important comic event happened just turned 40 and that is DC Comics Crisis on Infinite Earth turns 40 and still plays an important role in DC storytelling to this day.
The event was created by the legendary duo of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. The event lasted an entire year from April of 1985 till March of 1986 and this event was a huge deal, not just for DC Comics, but also for comic storytelling events for the years to come.
The main reason why this event ever came to be was because of DC Multiverse. In case you don’t know what that is, I’ll explain it to you in a very simple way. The DC Multiverse is the concept of many universes in a large universe itself that is a branch or other universe. Take for example the golden age of DC Comics is a universe within a larger universe that has its versions of heroes and villains and they can branch off to other timelines and even create other universes as well. Wolfman didn’t like this at all because it was a huge cluster and it was also unfair to the readers as well to try to remember so much, decided to create a single DC Universe and that is how Crisis on Infinite Earths came to be.
In order to do this, hundreds of characters were killed off for example the original Supergirl Kara Zor-El and Barry Allen, the Sliver Age’s Flash who death was very heartbroken and still stands the test of time as one of the most impact deaths in comics.
If you haven’t had the time to read this epic event please go and take the time to read it and see why this was and still is a very important event in comic history.
