In 1995, the world was not ready for one of the over-the-top supernatural action comic series to hit the scene, and that series is Preacher.

The series was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, with Ennis as the writer, Dillon was one of the artists, with Glenn Fabry and Carlos Ezquerra doing art. Clem Robins was on letterer duty and Matt Hollingworth and Pamela Rambo doing the coloring for the series. This creative team brought to life the story of Reverend Jesse Custer, who was down and out with his faith and somehow ended up in Genesis, a power that rivaled God himself. Once finding out that God left his heaven and the responsibilities to heaven as well, he goes on a road trip with his ex-girlfriend Tulip O’ Hare and a 100-year-old Irish vampire named Cassidy to find God, at all costs.

The series is as crazy and wild from start to finish, no wonder it was Vertigo published this series from 1995 till its conclusion in 2000 with a total of 75 issues, 66 were the main storyline, 4 one-shot specials, and a four-issue limited series. In 2015 AMC released a live-action adaptation of Preacher that ran for four seasons from 2015 til 2019 with 43 episodes made.

If you want to have a head trip from start to finish, then give this series a read.
