Ahoy captain cats here and today we have a lot of news about Sega, some good news and some bad news.
While Sega is celebrating its 60th anniversary, they made some announcements that are sad to read about. First off it has been reported that Sega is leaving the arcade business. According to Hypebeast that Sega is selling off 85.1% of its arcade business to Genda, another arcade company from Tokyo.
It was also reported that Sega asks 650 employees to “voluntarily retire.” According to Kotaku the company is asking people to do so and those who do with be “payment of extraordinary retirement allowances and reemployment support for applicants.”
The main reason for Sega to take these routes is due to the pandemic which has hurt Sega and led them to this situation, which is sad to report because they have been one of the company’s that help shape and form the video game industry.
Well, not all of the Sega news is bad, 1up Arcade has announced that they are releasing a new Sega arcade machine. They blew everyone away with the Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death
Adder arcade cabinet and now they are going to release the legendary arcade classic Outrun. The arcade cabinet will have 4 games and they are Outrun, Turbo Outrun, Outrunners, and Power Drift. This cabinet is going for $500 and as of now, they are sold out.
