Ahoy Captain Cats here and today I’m going to review another Konami Collection series from another beloved series and this time it is the Contra Anniversary Collection.
This collection has ten games from this run and gun series. A lot of these games have never been to other parts of the world, and this is the first time it has. Here is the list of the games in the collection
- Contra – Arcade
- Super Contra – Arcade
- Contra – NES
- Contra – Famicon Japan
- Super C – NES
- Contra III: The Alien Wars – SNES
- Operation C – Gameboy
- Contra Hard Corps – Genesis
- Super Probotector Alien Rebels – SNES PAL
- Probotector – Genesis PAL
As you can see there is a lot of repeats of Contra games, but each one has its charm to them, and I bet you may have never played the arcade versions or the PAL version. The gameplay is still spot on on all of them, and while some have age better than others, the same difficulty is still there, that unforgiving level of difficulty that a lot of people who grew up playing these games will remember.
The only thing I have to say about this is the control, don’t get me wrong they are very tight, which is fine but I wish they could have put a button reconfiguration option due to how Contra 3, Hard Corps and the PAL versions of these games are very hard, and one needs to be quick with the reaction.
Overall the Contra Anniversary Collection is a must-have for anyone who is looking to relive the classic run and gun experience and want a good challenge for under $20.
