Ahoy me mateys Captain Cats here. Last Friday Netflix released an adult animated series from Brazil called Super Drags. the series is about three friends who work together in a department store, and when the LGBT community needs saving they transform into the superhero team, the super drags.
The season is five episodes long, and some of the episodes do have some great writing that has people in the LGBT community can relate too such as acceptance, loving yourself for who you are, respecting one another and loving life. The art style and color pallet for the series show how colorful and unique Combo Estudio, the studio who made super drags.
Here is where it becomes a miss, the localization. The voice actors in the English dub are not bad at all and they are:
- Trixie Mattle
- Ginger Minj
- Willam Belli
- Shangela Laquifa Wadley
They all do a good job at it, but it doesn’t fit with the series as a whole. Compare to the Brazilian voice actors which I would recommend you to watch, fits so well with it. Another miss is some of the more adult parts of the series doesn’t fit well in English, and they tried to make it over the top, which didn’t work at all.
In the end its worth the watch but not in English, watch it in Brazilian Portuguese and remember, this is an adult animated series so I wouldn’t recommend it to watch it with the little ones around.
