Ahoy me mateys Captain Cats here! So I just finished the first two episodes of DCU’S original series Titans and to be honest, I don’t like it, not one bit.
I came to watch this series with an open mind when I head about it at SDCCI this past summer, and I thought “sounds and looks good,” boy was I wrong by a long shot. The series storyline is what I get so far is Dick Grayson aka Robin leaves Gotham City to be a cop in Detroit, Michigan and tries to help Rachel Roth aka Raven after she sees her mother gets killed in front of her. We see Koriand’r aka Starfire in Europe I think in either Germany or Russia being chased by mobsters. At the end of the first episode, we see Gar Logan aka Beast Boy breaking into a store and stealing video games. This was just the first episode, and this series wasn’t off to a great start. In the second episode we see Hawk and Dove and they carry the episode because they were believable. We also see the Nuclear Family as well, and I’ll admit they were the best part of the episode and made me laugh.
To me, the main problems I have with the series so far is how hard it tries to be very dark and serious. I can’t see or believe any of the characters being this dark and serious. Another issue I have with series is Robin himself. The way he acts, talk, react to a situation and trying his best to be his version of Batman is not cutting it for me. To me, he responds, walks, talks like a colossal jerk with no original bone in him. Lastly, the writing and story telling, what’s going on with it? I fell like I’m watching Batman VS Superman, but with the Titans and Batman VS Superman was a horrible movie.
I know its only two episodes in and I really can’t fully judge it until I see the rest of season one to make a full conclusion on this series, so once the season ends i’ll do an entire series review and see if they fix it up or not. For now, this series doesn’t look so good to me.
