After a year off and finding a new home, the San Diego Comic Fest is back. The convention will now be held at the Westin Carlsbad Resort and Spa on October 25-27.

This year’s theme is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Harvey Kurtzman and Rod Serling. For those who don’t know who they are, we’ve got you covered.

Harvey Kurtzman was an American cartoonist, writer, artist, and editor. He is most famous for creating Mad Magazine at EC Comics and creating the mascot for Mad, whose name is Alfred E. Neuman. Kurtzman would also go on to create another series for Playboy and that series is Little Annie Fanny. In 1988 The Harvey Awards was created and is still going on strong to this day.

Born as Rodman Edward Serling, Rod Serling was an American screenwriter and TV producer who is famous for creating The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, and also co-written Planet of the Apes. His style of writing and storytelling is still around to this day and is a great example of how storytelling is done right for science fiction on both the small and big screen.

Comic Fest will have panels, gaming, and more, Comic Fest is a great way to spend your weekend and a great way to get used to the convention scene in a wonderful environment that I can see will grow more in the years to come.
