It has been 5 years since the world saw the pilot episode of The Hazbin Hotel and just last week Amazon released the first 4 episodes I can tell you that it has what it takes to stand on its own two feet, but not without some issues and the big hellspawn in the room.

The Hazbin Hotel is an adult animated musical comedy that was created by Vivienne Medrano better known as “VivziePop” and it all takes place in hell. The series’ main protagonist, Charlie Morningstar, the princess of Hell, is on a very odd quest to save her people via rehab and redemption and you get a straightforward idea, but in hell it is not that easy. The first four episodes show that it is not a walk in the park and with a cast of oddballs just as crazy as Charlie’s dream, you are going to have yourself a good time.

The series does a good job of making it simple to follow and each of the characters is deeply complex yet imperfect in every way and it works. The animation is great, the musical numbers are fine and the writing and cast are great, especially Keith David as Husk, Kimiko Glenn as Niffty, and Amir Talai as Alastor.

While that is good and all, the series does have its flaws, such as the pacing for each episode, the “blink and you miss” moments, and the information in the plot and it feels like it is trying too hard at times. Not only that but another show that does this concept better and more entertaining is VivziePop’s other series and spin-off series from Hazbin Hotel and that’s Helluva Boss. Helluva Boss takes place in the same universe as Hazbin Hotel, but the story, cast, plots, musical numbers, and overall presentation are better than Hazbin Hotel.

With a few flaws here and there, the Hazbin Hotel is still a great series to watch. You can watch the first four episodes on Amazon Prime and new episodes every Thursday.
