Yo Ho, WeRCatz here!

The 2022 WWII film Sisu finally got released on 28 April 2023 in the US. It stars Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Onni Tommila, and Mimosa Willamo.

The story takes place during Lapland War during WWII in late 1944. Gold prospector Aatami Korpi (Tommila) takes his dog and horse somewhere in the wilderness of Lapland. He discovers a major deposit of gold and cuts up big nuggets to cash them in the nearest town. But a 30-man Wehrmacht platoon with females prisoners have other plans after discovering Korpi’s stash, not knowing that Korpi is a one-man killing machine nicknamed “Koschei” (The Immortal) who solely took revenge against the Russians during the Winter War (November 1939- March 1940). Now Korpi wants revenge on the Nazi soldiers after his stash is stolen…

Divided into chapters ala Quentin Tarantino’s films, Sisu is a fun, action-filled flick that shows no restraint in the brutalities of war. Director Jalmari Helander states two inspirations in making this film: the classic 1982 film First Blood and Finnish military sniper Simo Häyhä (1905-2002); Häyhä estimated in his private war memoir (discovered in 2017) that he shot about 500 Soviet soldiers in the Winter War.

Sisu is a fast film that does not disappoint or bore the viewer. Find the time to watch and see how one guy takes on a squad, period.
