Last year we told you about an anime series that was worth your time to watch and you will end up loving it and it was Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House and it looks like someone at Netflix loved the anime series and greenlit a live-action version. While the name and a few things are different from the original manga and anime series, The Makanai Cooking from the Maiko House still has the same sprite and loving tone from its original source and you can’t help but fall in love with this series all over again.

The series is a retelling of the original manga series but with some new twists and turns. Everyone does a phenomenal job here with their parts and the beautiful city of Kyoto is shown in full display. One of the biggest things here that are front and center is the culture of Kyoto and the maiko tradition. Director Hirokazu Kore-Eda did a wonderful job bringing this series to life and with Yoko Kanno doing the music this 9-episode series is worth the watch.

The Makanai Cooking from the Maiko House is a hit and has set up a blueprint of how a live-action manga adaptation is done right. The Makanai Cooking from the Maiko House is out now on Netflix.
