Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to look at a series that was way ahead of its time and is considered to be one of the funniest series that was canceled too soon and that series is Police Squad!

The series was created by Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker, the trio also did the writing. The series is a crime comedy spoof series that aired from March 4 till July 8 of 1982 with a total of 6 episodes seeing the light of day. The series follows Frank Drebin, who is played by Leslie Nielsen, and in each episode, he and the rest of the police squad try to solve the case, but with over-the-top comedy that still holds up to this day.

Each episode was jam-packed with joke after joke after joke that ABC had to cancel the series after 6 episodes they were afraid that people wouldn’t get the jokes. TV Guide’s annual “Cheers and Jeers” issue stated that the reasoning for canceling police squad was “The most stupid reason the network ever gave for ending a series.”

While the TV series ended, the series was brought back to life in film with The Naked Gun trilogy and they went on to be successful as well bringing the film series a total of over $477 million on a budget of only $65 million for all three films.

If you want to see how funny this series was look at this and see for yourself and you’ll see why it was ahead of its time.
