Ahoy Captain Cats here and today I’m going to look at the worst of 2021 in anime, but this time a bit different.

2021 for anime in short was a hit and miss to put in a better term. While there were great anime series and films that came out this year, there were more that were useless, boring, overrated, and downright waste of time. Sadly to say a lot of this is contributed to critics fanboying about their favorite series and films and the general public who just listen to what they said and agree. I didn’t like both the last Evangelion film and My Hero Academia films, the same goes with That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Girlfriend, Girlfriend, and the Magia Record side story series as well. To be honest it feels like most of the stories have already either been told or being retold and that is sad.

Another thing that was a blow to anime was the many people we lost this year. From Christopher Ayres, Saori Sugimoto, Koichi Sugiyama, Yoshiko Ota, and Yasuo Otsuka, we lost some of the most important and influential people in the history of anime and manga. Masahiro Anzai, Yasuo Otsuka, Shunsuke Kikuchi, Haruka Nagashima, and the two masters of manga Takao Saito, the creator of Golgo 13 and Kentaro Miura, the creator of Berserk.

Hopefully next year we might see a change in this, but I could be wrong.
