Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to look at the film trilogy that not only solidified the importance of this series in anime history but also changed anime as a whole and that series is Mobile Suit Gundam.

The film trilogy is based on the original TV series that ran from 1979 till 1980 and the three films are a retelling of some sorts in case anyone at the time in Japan either never saw the original series run or wanted to see what the fuss was about. The three films focus on the three major story arcs from the tv series and the films did a wonderful job doing so. In case you are wondering, the storyline is about a war between the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation and we see it through the eyes of a teenager named Amuro Ray and ended up piloting the RX-78-2 aka the first Gundam.

The films did a wonderful job retelling the original story but also added some more focus on some of the important parts of the series, and just a reminder these films came out between 1981-1982. If you have never seen the original tv series and or see why it’s a big deal not only in Japan but all over the world, this is a great place to start. If you want to watch them you can watch all three films on Netflix.
