Coming 2 America Review

Prince Akeem and his friend Semmi are back in Coming 2 America, the sequel to the 1988 classic hit Coming to America. It stars Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, Wesley Snipes, and many others from the original film. This was a good film, but not without its few shortcomings. Some of the interactions with Prince Akeem’s family should have been more explored while some of the supporting cast should have some more time.

However, the comedy was great. Seeing most of the original cast back was welcome. The progress of the difference in time shows continuity, especially with certain characters that can be humorously linked back to the first film. One scene in particular, where Crown Prince Lavelle and Mirembe talk about the failures of American cinema today had me laughing as that conversation purposely makes fun of the sequel itself!

If you haven’t seen it yet, go see Coming 2 America. It is a good laugh and enjoyable.
