Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to review the first two chapters of a new Black and White series and that series is Harley Quinn Black + White + Red first two chapters since it was announced that this series will be a Digital First series. This series will have 14 chapters and will have a different creative team in each chapter. For now, let’s look at the first two chapters and they are “Harleen: Red” and “Fashion Victim.”

Harleen: Red
Let’s get this out of the way, Harleen: Red is such a beautiful, heartfelt story. It more than just a story, its a poem about what the color red means to Harley. Stjepan Sejic just somehow made this simple poem into a story and with the artwork and color pallet here Harleen: Red just became a modern-day classic. Gabriela Downie did a wonderful job on lettering and it fits so well to Harleen: Red, it’s no wonder Harleen was one of the best books that came out for DC Black Lable last year.

Fashion Victim
Mirka Andolfo takes on Harley Quinn is a breath of fresh air simply because her art style, coloring, and storytelling sync with Harley Quinn so well. The story is Harley just got overthrown by Catwoman as the queen of style and Harley must find a way to take back the top stop at all cost. From start to finish this chapter is a blast to read and its a simple reminder that some of Harley Quinn’s best story are the ones you least expect Harley’s Holiday anyone?

In the end, Harley Quinn Black + White + Red is off to a fantastic start with two great back to backstories, and I for one can’t wait to read the rest of the chapters. If they play their cards right, DC might have another classic series on its hands and maybe an Eisner Award in the future.
