Ahoy Captain Cats here and today we are going to talk about what Sega announced over the weekend.

First is the announcement of the Sega Game Gear Micro the handheld that Sega created to compete with the Gameboy and failed. While Sega made a huge comeback with the Genesis mini they are going to try to go 2 for 2 in the retro console department. The Game Gear Micro or GGM for short, will come in 4 different color systems and each one will have a theme and set of games built-in. Here is the list of games that were announced on each GGM:

Black – Sonic the Hedgehog, Puyo Puyo 2, OutRun and Royal Stone
Yellow – 3 Shining Force games
Red – Revelations: The Demon Slayer, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special, The GG Shinobi and Columns
Blue – Sonic Chaos, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvan Tale and Baku Baku Animal

Almost half of the game here I have never heard of till the time of writing this article and will be available on Amazon Japan on October 10 of this year for 4, 980 yen.

The other big news that Sega announced was “Fog Gaming.” According to the Famitsu, as reported by Serkan Toto will make use of the arcade cabinet’s CPU and GPU to reduce cost and latency. Since Japan still has a huge arcade environment via game centers, this can provide them extra income outside their business hour. If Fog Gaming is a huge success in Japan, it will beg to question, will we see the rebirth of the arcade scene of the late ’80s to mid-’90s in the 2020s?

Once Sega releases more information about either the GGM and Fog Gaming, we will report it as soon as possible.
