Ahoy Captain Cats here and today I’m going to tell you everything you need to know about an upcoming new anime series. This series can be in the running for anime series of the year, and that series is Beastars.

Beastars is created by Paru Itagaki and published by Akita Shoten. The series was first shown in the Weekly Shonen Champion on September 8, 2016, and is still in its print run with 14 volumes already published. Beastars has won 4 awards in Japan, and they are:

  • 11th Annual Manga Taisho Award for Manga of the Year 2018
  • Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes for New Creator Prize 2018
  • 42nd Annual Kodansha Manga Awards for Best Shonen Manga 2018
  • Japan Media Arts Festival Awards for New Face Award 2018

The story for this drama takes place in an anthropomorphic civilized world where it is divided by carnivores and herbivores. A student was murdered, and students of both sides of the spectrum are at a breaking point with one another. Here we see the series main protagonist, a very large gray wold named Legoshi, who a member of the Cherryton Academy Drama Club and ended up having a fateful encounter with Haru, a small dwarf rabbit and started to have complex feeling for her.

It was announced earlier this year that Beastars was getting an anime series . CG studio Orange, the same studio that brought us 2017’s beautiful sleeper hit series Land of the Lustrous will be working on this series. Beastars will be aired in Japan starting this October on Fuji TV (+Ultra), and once it finished in Japan, it will be on Netflix all over the world.
