Netflix Renews Big Mouths But Cancels Tuca & Bertie

Ahoy Captain Cats here and I some good and bad news to tell you all, so let’s get to the point.

Netflix has renewed Big Mouth for three more seasons, rejoice? This news came from series creator Nick Kroll’s Twitter account as you can see, he makes the announcement. Don’t get me wrong I think Big Mouth is funny in its own right, but I believe Tuca & Bertie should have gotten another season.

Now comes the bad news, Netflix will not renew its breakout hit show Tuca & Bertie. Netflix released a statement about why they won’t pick up Tuca & Bertie:

“Lisa Hanawalt created a relatable yet whimsical world in Tuca & Bertie. We’re grateful to Lisa, and her fellow executive producers Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, Steven A. Cohen, and EPs/stars Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, along with all of the writers and animators for sharing the funny and dynamic female bird duo of Tuca and Bertie with the world. While Tuca & Bertie won’t have a second season, we’re proud to feature this story on Netflix for years to come.” – Netflix

Tuca & Birtie was an incredible show and was nothing like Bojack Horseman. If you have the time read an excellent piece that Caroline Framke of Variety wrote about how the cancellation of this series is a loss for TV. The link to that piece can be found here. 

So the one question that is going on in my mind is this- What the hell is going on at Netflix?
