Ahoy Captain Cats here and today I’m going to be reviewing to what I believe to be the first real anime of the year contender and that anime is Rilakkuma and Kaoru.

This stop motion anime tells the tale of Kaoru, a normal woman who works a 9 to 5 job and lives with two bears and a baby chick. The series goes through a year, and you see how she and her “roommates” deal with everything that comes to them, whether being paying rent or how to cool off during the hot summer days in Japan.

This series not only has a beautiful, eye-catching look but an emotional story as well. Writer Naoko Ogigami took her time and wanted to tell a story that we can all relate to at the end of the day. Mind you that there are 13 episodes and each one is 12 minutes long, so to create a personal story within a 12-minute episode is very hard to do. Mikako Tabe brings Kaoru to life, and the rest of the cast does an excellent job of bringing this little world to life. The music is as simply pleasant to the ears from start to finish with an ending song that puts it all together.

Rilakkuma and Kaoru is without a doubt a joy to watch, even when you come home from a bad day from work, school, even life this show will put a smile on your face. Rilakkuma and Kaoru is on Netflix with all the episodes and if you have time with the making of Rilakkuma and Kaoru and see why this series is so special.
