Candy Corn, the little yellow, orange, and white triangle shape candy is the sign that fall is here. Candy Corn also has a reputation of being the one candy most people don’t like, and the question is why?

Candy Corn has been around since the 1880’s, by George Renninger. According to the National Confectioners Association over 9000 metric tons of candy corn is sold annually, which is about 35 million pounds. It is made with very few ingredients and is still made with the same ingredients and process.

Now here is the question we need to ask ourselves, why do people hate candy corn? Is it the taste, the smell, the look? Another issue is that if so many people hate candy corn, then why is it one of the best selling candies during Halloween?

So is candy corn the hero or villain that Halloween needs? Should another kind of candy replace it? To me I like candy corn, it’s not too sweet or too bitter, and it always reminds me of Halloween. In the words of James Gordon from The Dark Knight:

“He is the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now” – James Gordon

That what candy corn is, the hero that Halloween deserves, but not right now.
