Ahoy Captain Cats here and a famous Great Dane and his friends turn 50 this year over the weekend.

The world was introduced to Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma on September 13, 1969, in the first of many reincarnations of Scooby Doo, Where Are You! This series had three seasons; the first two were on CBS from 1969 till October 31, 1970, and season 3 was on ABC from September 9, 1978, till December 23, 1978. The reason for Scooby and the gang was made into a cartoon series was because there was a plan that both CBS and Hanna-Barbera, the company who created the series, was trying to create a non-violent Saturday morning cartoon block.

After the end of the first series, there were many other series and came and went for the next 50 years, with other animated series, live-action films, home video releases, comic books, video games, and so much more. So here is to 50 years of chasing people in a mask, eating tons of food, and being a footnote in cartoon and pop culture history.
