Ahoy me mateys Captain Cats here! The 2018 New York Comic Con(NYCC for short) is happening right now as both the Nightrider and I are reporting this and we will give you all the up to date news as best as we can. Let us start with comic news that came out of NYCC2018.

  • New Star Wars books and comics were announced at NYCC. IO9 reported that there would be a new mini Darth Vader comic series by Chuck Wendig, a new book from Alexander Freed titled ‘Alphabet Squad’ and another book by Claudia Grey titled ‘ Master & Apprentice.’
  • The Hollywood Reporter reported that DC’s Brian Michael Bendis named the new Imprint for young adult readers ‘Wonder Comics’ and will launch in January 2019.
  • The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Marvel will debut a new ‘ Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in January 2019. The team that will be doing this series is Tom Taylor and Juan Cabal, both work on the ‘ All-New Wolverine’ series.
  • Comicbeat reported that NYCC had Memorial events for the Late Anthony Bourdain with his last work titled ‘Anthony Bourdain’s Hungry Ghosts.’ We will try to get a copy of this book and do a review on it as soon as we can.

Lastly NYCC 2018 also held it’s 2018 Harvey Awards, named after cartoonist and pop culture icon Harvey Kurtzman. Here is the list of this years winners and recipients:

  • Book of the Year: Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda
  • Digital Book of the Year: Barrier by Brian K. Vaughn, Marcos Martin, and Muntsa Vicente
  • Best Children or Young Adult Book: Tie The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang and The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’ Neill
  • Best Adaptation for a Comic Book/Graphic Novel: Black Panther
  • Best Manga: My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Nagata Kabi
  • Best European Book: California Dreamin’: Cass Elliot Before The Mamas & The Papas by Penelope Bagieu
  • 2018 International Spotlight Award: Harold Sakuishi
  • 2018 Comic Pioneer Honor: Jackie Estrada
  • 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees: Roz Chast and Dave Gibbons
